Executive Mosaic is honored to announce Gary Shankman, Serco Inc. chief financial officer, as the newest inductee into the Wash 100, the premier group of leaders who create value for the American public and execute strategic vision at the intersection of the public and private sectors.
Shankman joined Serco in January 2013 from the CFO position within SAIC’s $5 billion defense solutions group and has more than 30 years of industry experience.
A certified public accountant, Shankman focused on federal acquisition compliance and other areas near the front end of his career when he was consulting and auditing government contractors with Arthur Andersen.
When bringing on Shankman, Serco said Shankman will play an important role in strategic planning and M&A as the firm looks to continue its “track record” of acquiring companies.
“The government contracting industry is very different and his vast experience in the GovCon industry is going to be a asset for us,” Serco rep Alan Hill told GovCon Wire.
Shankman focused on strategic planning, business process transformation, and M&A as part of his responsibilities at SAIC. Before joining SAIC, he earlier held executive roles as a corporate controller and head of mergers and acquisitions.
“The future is very fluid and the CFO needs to prepare his organization for various different future scenarios and have game plans around those scenarios,” Shankman told ExecutiveBiz in 2009 about the ‘must-dos’ of every CFO.
He added that “the CFO has to be part of the puzzle to make sure we are doing everything we can to win new business” and as market competition becomes fierce, its critical “to make sure we are operating as efficiently as possible and find ways to control costs so that we can invest in growth opportunities and return value to our stockholders.”
Executive Mosaic extends its congratulations to Gary and the rest of the Serco Inc. organization.
