John Kelly, DHS Secretary, Chosen to 2017 Wash100 for Border & Airport Policy Leadership

Posted by Scott Nicholas on February 10, 2017 in Wash100 | 69 Views

Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly as an inductee into the 2017 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of influential leaders in the government contracting arena.

The retired U.S. Marine Corps general now leads a Department of Homeland Security workforce that includes approximately 229,000 employees across 22 components such as the Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, Coast Guard and the Secret Service.

Kelly will also be in charge of the development of President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall between the U.S. and Mexico that will be constructed in a push to address potential security issues related to immigration between both countries.

“[Kelly] is the right person to spearhead the urgent mission of stopping illegal immigration and securing our borders, streamlining TSA and improving coordination between our intelligence and law enforcement agencies,” said Trump in a statement.

Other issues that Kelly will look to address during his tenure at DHS include refugee programs, cyber policies and updated TSA security policies.

Kelly’s military career includes roles such as leader of U.S. Southern Command, commandant’s liaison officer to the House, special assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe and legislative assistant to the commandant at the Marine Corps headquarters.

He also served as a senior military assistant to two defense secretaries, commander of the Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North, assistant division commander of the 1st Marine Division and various senior command roles in Iraq.

Executive Mosaic congratulates John Kelly and the DHS team for their selection to receive this award.
