Ray-Johnson

(Editors note: Reuters has reported and Lockheed Martin has confirmed to Executive Mosaic that Ray Johnson retired from the company on Feb. 1.

Both the headline and story below on Johnson’s induction into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 list for 2015 have been updated to reflect his retirement from Lockheed)

Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Ray Johnson, former senior vice president and chief technology officer at Lockheed Martin, as the newest inductee into the Wash100 — a group of influential leaders in the government contracting industry.

Johnson managed the company’s engineering, technology and production operations, oversaw approximately 4,000 programs on security systems and led Lockheed’s Advanced Technology Laboratory and Center for Innovation.

In 2014, Lockheed secured a partnership with public- and private-sector organizations in Alberta, Canada to research and develop new technologies for an initiative that Johnson said “brings together the diverse resources, talent, and ideas of academia, industry, and government.”

He also has highlighted what he views as potential business opportunities in laser technology for defense applications and also in the energy market as the company plans to build facilities for water filtration and aqua-farming.

“Should the [technology] develop, that can result in a very large commercial market,” Johnson said of energy to the Wall Street Journal.

His career at Lockheed has also included service on the boards of Lockheed’s Sandia subsidiary, the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology among other industry and professional groups.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Ray Johnson for his selection to receive this award.
