Lithuania, Philippines Agree to Improve Security, Defense Cooperation

Lithuania-Philippines security defense partnership

Lithuania and the Philippines have agreed to collaborate closely on security and defense issues affecting both nations, particularly maritime security. Lithuanian National Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene formalized the agreement by signing a memorandum of understanding with Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro during her recent visit to Manila.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the agreement comes amid the growing threats from Russia and China, especially their shadow fleets.

Under the deal, the two nations will partner on efforts to protect against threats to undersea cables, disinformation campaigns and cyberattacks. The Lithuanian and Philippine armed forces are expected to gain better information sharing and defense cooperation, including military exercises and expert exchange.

The Potomac Officers Club will host the 2025 GovCon International Summit on Oct. 16, where the future of global collaboration and defense takes center stage. Join the discussion and register your spot today.

“Lithuania sees the Philippines as an important partner in strengthening regional stability, public resilience and defense capabilities,” Sakaliene said. “[The agreement] is more than a symbolic step. It is a launchpad for our joint projects, which can strengthen the resilience of both countries.”

The official’s four-day tour of Manila includes a meeting with Philippine Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and visiting the Philippine Navy headquarters.
