Rheinmetall to Maintain Czech Republic Leopard Tanks Under $292M Deal

Rheinmetall on Czech Republic Leopard tank maintenance contract win

Rheinmetall has received a contract from the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Defence to deliver extensive service and maintenance support to its Leopard 2A4 main battle tank and Bergepanzer 3 “Buffel” armored recovery vehicle.

Under the seven-year, $292.1 million award, the German automotive and arms manufacturer will work on 42 Leopards and two Buffels, providing several services and goods that ensure their combat readiness. The maintenance deal covers assembly repairs, technical and logistical support and follow-up supply of spare parts, among other services.

According to a statement issued Wednesday, Rheinmetall Landsysteme will collaborate with Czech businesses, focusing on delivering repair and maintenance support and transferring technical knowledge.

Rheinmetall says Leopard 2 features the company’s 120 mm smoothbore gun, which enables the vehicle to deliver lethality with the combination of firepower and mobility while ensuring the safety of its crew.

As of December 2024, the Czech Republic had 42 Leopard 2 tanks and two Buffel 3 armored recovery vehicles.

The latest contract follows the $169 million deal Rheinmetall secured from Czechia in December 2024 to deliver additional Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks. That deal also includes the provision of an extensive ammunition and logistics package.
