Helmut Raunch on Diehl Defence Raytheon Stinger missile for Europe

Raytheon, an RTX business, is collaborating with Diehl Defence to co-manufacture key elements of its Stinger missile in Europe. The deal is part of a recently signed memorandum of understanding extending Stinger production in the region.

Diehl Defence specializes in air defence systems, providing guided missiles, ammunition, and protection systems to German and international armed forces.

Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch said relaunching production for the missiles reflects the company’s proven capabilities and expertise in the product segment. He added that partnering with Raytheon aligns with their position as a strong player in the ground-based air defense systems market.

The Stinger product page on RTX.com lists the missile as a lightweight, self-contained air defense system, ideal for rapid ground deployment. The missile is used by four branches of the U.S. military and deployed in 19 other nations.

Tom Laliberty, president of land and air defense systems at Raytheon, highlighted that the system is a weapon of choice among European countries, including Germany. “We are seeing historically high demand for Stinger because of its unrivaled effectiveness and success against a variety of short-range threats,” he said.

Another significant user of the Stingers is Ukraine, powering its armed forces in its fight against Russia.
