AIM-9X Sidewinder. Belgian $568 million foreign military sale request approved in Washington

Belgium is set to receive AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles under a possible $567.8 million foreign military sale approved by the U.S. Department of State, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced Monday. RTX will serve as the principal contractor.

The package includes 320 AIM-9X Block II and 258 AIM-9X Block II+ tactical missiles, along with 50 Block II and 30 Block II+ guidance units. It also covers missile containers, weapon software, transport, and U.S. government and contractor support for engineering, logistics and related services.

To support the deal, four U.S. government and two contractor representatives will be temporarily assigned to Belgium for technical oversight.

According to DSCA, the proposed sale will bolster Belgium’s F-35 fleet and strengthen NATO’s collective defense mission.

The latest Sidewinder package follows Washington’s July 2024 approval of Belgium’s $115 million procurement of Small Diameter Bomb-Increment II missiles, also contracted to RTX, to further bolster the combat readiness of the country’s F-35 fleet.
