CAE has received a subcontract from Lockheed Martin Canada to develop training solutions for the communications and integrated bridge and navigation systems of the River-class destroyer program, formerly the Canadian surface combatant project.
Under the award, CAE will deliver services including analysis, courseware development and advanced training to support the Royal Canadian Navy’s readiness. The company will also provide human factors engineering services to help design the new vessel.
What Is the River-Class Destroyer?
The Canadian government envisions the River-class destroyer as a cornerstone of national security, capable of monitoring and defending against threats in domestic waters while contributing to international naval operations.
The ship is designed for air, surface, subsurface and information warfare missions and can operate alongside the North American Aerospace Defense Command, Five Eyes partners, NATO and coalition allies.
Readers can gain broader insights into allied defense priorities at the 2025 GovCon International & Global Defense Summit on Oct. 16. This Potomac Officers Club event will convene senior government and industry leaders to discuss multinational security cooperation and global readiness. Learn more here.
CAE’s Training Solutions
France Hébert, division president of Defense & Security Canada and global operations lead at CAE, said her team is eager to support Canada as the RCD program moves into the implementation phase. “Our advanced training solutions will equip the Royal Canadian Navy with world-class capabilities tailored to the specific needs of the River-class destroyer,” she said.
This award complements CAE’s recent Canadian defense training engagements, such as its substantial subcontract with SkyAlyne for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Future Aircrew Training program and the memorandum of understanding with Saab to co-develop simulation and training systems for Canada’s next-generation submarine fleet.
