Northrop Grumman has partnered with several Taiwanese companies to bring its AN/TPS-78 Advanced Capability radar to Taiwan. Ramatek, Champion Auto and Vivian and Vincent International Trading signed memoranda of understanding with the U.S. defense contractor to support local delivery of the system.
The AN/TPS-78 ADCAP is a mobile radar designed to enhance air surveillance and operate effectively in challenging environments. It uses stacked beam architecture to detect targets at multiple altitudes and can function in all weather conditions. Its compact size allows for reliable transport and lower logistics costs.
“The AN/TPS-78 ADCAP radar is a proven, long-range and highly mobile system that will significantly enhance Taiwan’s air surveillance capabilities,” said Greg Teitelbaum, vice president for land and maritime sensors at Northrop Grumman. “We are dedicated to partnering with the Taiwanese industry to strengthen Taiwan’s self-defense capacity.”
Northrop has been expanding its footprint in Taiwan, naming its first lead executive in Taipei in 2023 and completing upgrades to the country’s fleet of F-16 jets in 2024.
