OpenAI Partners With Japan to Develop AI Solutions for Public Sector

OpenAI Japan AI use cases public service

OpenAI has entered into a strategic collaboration with Japan’s Digital Agency to explore how generative artificial intelligence can improve public services.

As part of the effort, the agency will roll out Gennai, a new tool powered by OpenAI technology, to government employees to test innovative service delivery applications.

The move builds on earlier cooperation between Japan and OpenAI, including the Hiroshima AI Process Comprehensive Policy Framework, developed with the G7 and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development to establish guidelines for safe, secure and trustworthy advanced AI systems.

The collaboration also supports Japan’s pursuit of certification under the Information system Security Management and Assessment Program to strengthen security for government AI.

OpenAI said it will continue prioritizing “safety, transparency and international cooperation” while expanding ties with Japan’s government, local authorities, academia and industry.

The announcement follows a similar partnership between OpenAI and the U.K. government to strengthen national AI infrastructure through investment in domestic data centers and R&D facilities.
