The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the U.S. National Science Foundation have awarded funding to five joint Canada-U.S. research teams through the Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future initiative.
The program supports interdisciplinary collaborations to accelerate materials and molecular design, shorten discovery-to-application timelines, and train the next generation of scientists and engineers. NSERC said the newly awarded projects will receive about $1 million over four years.
The selected partnerships involve researchers from McGill University, the University of British Columbia, Université de Sherbrooke, McMaster University and Simon Fraser University, in collaboration with U.S. counterparts from Duke University, the University of Maryland, Boston College, Caltech and the University of Washington.
“International collaboration is essential to advancing the breakthroughs needed for a more sustainable and resilient future,” said NSERC President Alejandro Adem. “By bringing together Canadian and U.S. researchers, we’re accelerating discoveries in materials science and building the talent to address global challenges in energy, infrastructure and technology.”
