The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence has awarded IBM UK a $431 million contract to deliver the Defence Equipment Engineering Asset Management Systems, or DEEAMS.
“IBM is proud to support the Ministry of Defence to deliver the transformational DEEAMS program to enable a next generation, full-life-cycle asset management solution for the U.K. armed forces,” said Rahul Kalia, managing partner at IBM Consulting United Kingdom and Ireland. The executive said DEEAMS will improve the British forces’ planning and support strategic decision-making using predictive intelligence and real-time, data-driven insights.
AI-Powered Asset Management
The artificial intelligence-powered DEEAMS will also enhance spare parts inventory management and engineering services planning. The platform will replace 17 fragmented, legacy applications to keep the United Kingdom at the forefront of innovation.
The increasing adoption of AI is changing the defense landscape. At the Potomac Officers Club’s 2025 GovCon International and Global Defense Summit on Oct. 16, leaders from the private and public sectors will share insights on the impact of technological advancements and international partnerships on the modern battlefield. The MoD expects the contract to create 100 new skilled jobs nationwide, supporting the government’s Plan for Change initiative.
Ensuring Combat Readiness
Defence Readiness and Industry Minister Luke Pollard noted how the deal reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring combat readiness. “We are revolutionizing how we provide our frontline personnel with the kit they need, when they need it, whether they’re operating at home or deployed overseas,” he said.
The British Armed Forces have embraced AI in various aspects of military operations. In May, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory assessed possible AI use cases in different domains, aiming to improve capabilities to defend national security.
