“The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence has launched a new effort to digitize and integrate military records into a digital system already in use across the National Health Service to boost recruitment and ensure that service leavers can transition to civilian life more seamlessly.

MOD said Friday it awarded software company The Phoenix Partnership, also known as TPP, a $10.7 million contract for the modern electronic health record, or EHR, system

“The partnership between the Ministry of Defence and TPP will deliver the world’s most advanced digital health platform for the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force — now and into the future,” stated Charlotte Knowles, CEO of TPP.

Modernizing healthcare delivery is one of the key topics at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2025 Healthcare Summit on Feb. 12. How Will EHR Integration Support MOD Objectives?

According to the MOD, the current process of transferring health records between the Defence Medical Services, the nation’s provider of military medical healthcare services, and the NHS requires “time-consuming paperwork,” which slows down recruitment and personnel deployment.

It also affects how quickly service members can leave the military, often burdening leavers with paperwork and waiting for their health records to be moved to their NHS providers.

“Our Armed Forces deserve a healthcare system as modern as they are. For too long, paper-based records have slowed down recruitment and created unnecessary headaches for those leaving the military,” Louise Sandher-Jones, minister for veterans people, commented.

MOD expects that, by 2027, the new system will accelerate recruitment and immediately get new personnel to training.

“This new system will cut through the bureaucracy, getting recruits into uniform faster and ensuring veterans transition smoothly to civilian life,” Sandher-Jones added.

What Is The Phoenix Partnership?

Headquartered in Leeds, England, TPP is a provider of healthcare technology. The company said its clinical systems deliver health services to over 300,000 users across 7,800 NHS organizations.

Its core product, the SystmOne, gives clinicians access to 61 million electronic health records on the company’s database.
