Sweden Joins US-Led Pax Silica Initiative to Strengthen Technology Cooperation

Sweden's Maria Malmer Stenergard. Sweden joined the Pax Silica effort to enhance the supply chain for emerging technologies.

Sweden’s Foreign Affairs Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard signed the Pax Silica Declaration during a visit to Houston on March 17, formally confirming the country’s participation in the initiative, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs announced Tuesday.

What Is the Pax Silica Initiative?

Pax Silica is an initiative launched by the U.S. in December 2025 to unite technology-focused nations and enhance cooperation in securing supply chains for emerging technologies. It also aims to support innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure and keep sensitive technologies secure. The effort channels capital and investment to boost industrial capacity and strengthen supply chains among like-minded partners.

Sweden is a leading innovation country with a strong research base and world-leading companies. This cooperation will help enhance our competitiveness and sharpen our technical cutting-edge expertise,” Malmer Stenergard said.

Which Countries Are Participating?

A dozen nations have joined Pax Silica to date. Aside from the U.S. and Sweden, the other signatories are Australia, Greece, India, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the U.K.

The effort emphasizes closer collaboration among countries with complementary resources and capabilities, focusing on areas such as semiconductors, connectivity, energy and critical minerals. These elements are considered essential for advancing artificial intelligence and strengthening digital infrastructure.

In February, the Department of State launched a pilot “concierge” service to help participating nations streamline the acquisition of U.S.-made AI products.
