  • Dutch authorities have approved BigBear.ai’s Pangiam Threat Detection for aviation security screening
  • The AI platform analyzes CT baggage scans and flags potential prohibited items in near real time
  • The approval confirmed compliance with APIDS Standard 1 and additional Dutch detection requirements

BigBear.ai has announced that its Pangiam Threat Detection platform has earned national approval from the Netherlands’ National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security after completing testing by the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, or TNO.

What Is Pangiam Threat Detection?

The company said Thursday Pangiam Threat Detection is an artificial intelligence-enabled platform for aviation security screening. It analyzes three-dimensional computed tomography scans of cabin baggage in near real time and alerts security personnel to potential prohibited items.

The system features smart device-based user interfaces designed to support decision-making, remote security management, incident escalation, training and auditing while providing threat item and pattern analytics.

What Did the Approval Confirm?

BigBear.ai said the platform, when integrated with SureScan Corporation’s DETECT 1000 CT screening system, satisfied Automated Prohibited Items Detection System, or APIDS, Standard 1 criteria and Dutch national additional detection requirements for aviation security screening. The company added that the approval is the first in a series of evaluations involving additional certification bodies and original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs.

Kevin McAleenan, CEO of BigBear.ai and three-time Wash100 Award winner, said the approval validates the company’s approach to delivering mission-ready AI for regulated aviation security environments where operators increasingly rely on automation.

The approval adds to BigBear.ai’s portfolio of AI-powered security technologies. In 2025, the company launched an AI-enabled cargo security platform with Narval Holding Corp. to help strengthen supply chain security in Panama. It also partnered with Easy Lease and Vigilix Technology Investment to develop AI applications for mobility and industrial services in the United Arab Emirates.
