The United Kingdom and Ukraine have launched a new artificial intelligence partnership designed to combine Ukraine’s battlefield data and technology expertise with Britain’s AI ecosystem.

The agreement, signed in Kyiv by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham, gives the U.K. access to Ukraine’s Avengers AI Labs platform, which uses operational data collected from thousands of daylight cameras and infrared sensors across the battlefield.
The partnership will initially focus on defense and national security, bringing together government, military, academic and industry expertise to address operational challenges. The countries also intend to explore additional platforms for future cooperation.
Burnham said the partnership would combine Ukraine’s operational experience with Britain’s AI ecosystem to develop future technologies.
“By combining Ukrainian battlefield data with British expertise, we will accelerate the development of capabilities that not only strengthen our national security but better protect our critical infrastructure,” he added.
How Will Avengers AI Labs Support U.K. Defense Innovation?
The U.K. government said access to the Avengers platform will allow British researchers and innovators to work with real-world operational data and insights from Ukraine’s war experience.
Several pilot projects are already being developed with U.K. startups, including Bristol-based Sintela, Oxford-based Mind Foundry and London-based Skyral.
One project is an AI-enabled sensing infrastructure to be deployed at a U.K. defense site to help protect bases from protesters and hostile actors seeking intelligence.
A second initiative will examine next-generation, low-power AI chips intended for drones, robotics and autonomous systems. The technology could enable autonomous platforms to operate longer, respond more quickly and function in environments where conventional systems face limitations.

The AI initiative is part of the U.K.-Ukraine 100-year partnership and reflects a broader effort to deepen bilateral defense and technology cooperation.
“From supporting with military equipment and training to co-developing cutting-edge technology, the UK will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine for as long as it takes,” Wes Streeting, U.K. defense secretary.
AI Minister Kanishka Narayan characterized the initiative as an effort to build domestic AI capabilities while converting frontline experience into technologies with broader security applications.
How Is the U.K. Expanding International AI Technology Cooperation?
The U.K.-Ukraine AI partnership comes as Britain continues to deepen defense technology cooperation with international partners. The government has also agreed to allow MBDA to release classified information on U.K. components used in the SCALP long-range missile, supporting plans to establish local assembly lines in Ukraine.
Separately, the U.K. and Australia have been advancing cooperation on frontier AI security, including shared research, AI testing standards and staff exchanges between the two nations.
