L3Harris Technologies Rolls Out Sensor Systems Production in Poland

Tom Kirkland on L3Harris Poland sensor system production

L3Harris Technologies has commenced production of its electro-optical/infrared sensor systems for the European market at its new facility in Katowice, Poland. The 2,000-square-meter plant will produce EMX-Series EO/IR sensors designed for both crewed and autonomous platforms used in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting missions.

The facility’s tooling enables the delivery of the EMX-Series of EO/IR sensors for military operations across domains, including counter-unmanned system missions. L3Harris Technologies noted that it can rapidly expand its Polish sensor production to help fulfill the ISR needs of Europe’s Readiness 2030 and Security Action for Europe to address security threats.

Tom Kirkland, vice president and general manager of targeting and sensor systems at L3Harris, pointed out that the “rapid delivery of proven solutions” is a must, with the new challenges in contested environments.

“Our ability to manufacture and deliver EMX-Series EO/IR systems in Europe enables our customers to remain at peak operational readiness as we continue to build strong and strategic local partnerships.”

Besides the new Katowice facility, L3Harris Technologies has offices in Warsaw and a manufacturing footprint across Europe, where a technical team provides production, repair and product support services.

As of 2025, the company has delivered 8,000 units of its WESCAM MX-Series system in 32 countries for integration in over 119 platforms. Germany is one of L3Harris Technologies’ customers for the WESCAM MX-15D sensor, which was scheduled in December 2024 for integration into the country’s new Airbus H145M helicopters.
