Saab has acquired Deform, the Swedish shipbuilding metal fabricator, in a move to strengthen the supply chain for Sweden’s defense sector.

Founded in 1907, Deform specializes in the hot and cold fabrication of various metallic materials. The company focuses on pressure vessels, metal protection components, heavy fabrication and heavy equipment. Deform will keep its name and continue its operations from its headquarters in Degerfors, Sweden.

Ties With Saab Kockums

Deform has been a long-time supplier for Saab, providing specialty parts for Kockums, Saab’s submarine-building unit.

Mats Wicksell, Saab senior vice president and head of the Kockums business area, highlighted that Deform’s expertise in metal fabrication has played a crucial role in Saab’s current production of Blekinge-class submarines for the Swedish Navy.

He described the integration of Deform into the Saab family as a “winning solution” for securing the supply chain for both Kockums and Deform, and for jointly developing additional business opportunities.

Ulrika Jonsson, CEO of Deform, expressed pride in the company’s joining the Saab organization, saying, “This means a continued strong and stable future for our people and our business, where we continue to deliver world-class advanced products to our customers.”
