Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has signed a teaming agreement with Hyundai Rotem Co. to integrate the Trophy Active Protection System onto the K2 main battle tank and future platforms.
The agreement, unveiled at the 2025 MSPO defense exhibition in Kielce, covers integration, production, marketing, localization and life cycle services. It builds on an earlier memorandum of understanding between the two companies and sets a framework for long-term cooperation.
“This agreement represents a shared commitment to advancing battlefield survivability for next-generation armored platforms,” said Tzvi Marmor, executive vice president and head of Rafael’s Land and Naval Systems Division.
Hyundai Rotem said it will optimize the combat-proven Trophy APS for the K2 and its K2PL variant, designed for Poland. “Through a strategic teaming agreement, both companies will work closely to optimize and fully integrate the APS, tailoring it specifically for the K2 while ensuring adaptability for a wide range of customers,” said Hyung-Joon Jo, senior vice president and head of Hyundai Rotem’s Defense Solutions R&D Center.
According to Rafael, the Trophy system can transform any platform into a modern, highly lethal and survivable machine. It offers a high kill probability; low levels of false alarms, shocks and radiation; and compatibility with multiple platforms, including wheeled and 8×8 vehicles.
The system has already been adopted internationally. In 2024, Germany fielded its first Trophy-equipped Leopard 2 tanks, part of a broader European modernization effort.
