The United States and Saudi Arabia have signed a joint declaration outlining a new civil nuclear cooperation framework. U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud formalized bilateral safeguard agreements intended to reinforce nonproliferation commitments, the Department of Energy said.
What Does the Declaration Cover?
The initiative would enable Saudi Arabia to access U.S. nuclear technology.
In a video posted on social media platform X, Wright described the signing event as a “historic day,” emphasizing both nations’ intent to deepen strategic cooperation while upholding international nonproliferation standards.
The Energy secretary attributed the breakthrough to what he called President Donald Trump’s “broad vision of prosperity at home and peace abroad.” Wright said the approach has shifted regional priorities “toward commerce, not conflict,” and pointed to the close relationship between the U.S. president and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as a catalyst for bilateral cooperation and investment across borders.
