RTX’s Raytheon Awarded $168M Patriot Contract as Romania Places Second Order

Raytheon. The RTX business secured a $168 million Patriot air defense contract for Romania.

RTX subsidiary Raytheon has secured a $168 million foreign military sales contract to provide Romania with equipment for the Patriot air and missile defense system, marking the country’s second Patriot-related order within the past year.

What Does the $168M Patriot Contract Include for Romania?

The award covers the delivery of a radar, command-and-control components, launchers and associated support and test equipment, RTX said Friday. It follows U.S. government approvals in 2017 and in April 2025 of Romania’s request to acquire the Patriot system and related components and services through the FMS process.

Earlier contracts awarded to Raytheon have also supported Romania’s Patriot inventory through the delivery of spares, ground support equipment and system components under U.S. Army-managed FMS awards.

Why Is Patriot Central to European Air Defense Modernization?

The Patriot system continues as the cornerstone of air and missile defense for several NATO members. Romania is the latest European operator to expand or modernize its inventory, joining Germany, the Netherlands and Spain in placing recent system orders.

“Patriot remains the air and missile defense system of choice worldwide,” said Pete Bata, Raytheon’s senior vice president of Global Patriot.

“Our focus is on delivering proven, combat-tested capabilities to support readiness and enhance collective security across Europe,” he added.
