Textron Aviation Defense has finalized a contract with the Japanese government for the delivery of its Beechcraft T-6JP Texan II integrated training system.
The Textron Inc. subsidiary said Sunday that the initial contract covers the provision of two Beechcraft T-6JP Texan II aircraft and instructor pilot and aircraft maintainer training materials.
“This contract marks a pivotal step in strengthening Japan’s next-generation pilot training capabilities,” Travis Tyler, president and CEO at Textron Aviation Defense, stated. “We’re honored to support the Japan Air Self-Defense Force with a proven, interoperable training system that’s trusted by air forces around the world and tailored to meet Japan’s mission requirements for decades to come.”
The Beechcraft T-6JP Texan II will replace JADSF’s Fuji/Subaru T-7 basic trainer aircraft.

The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II is a single-engine, two-seat primary trainer designed to deliver a wide range of training capabilities, ranging from initial pilot screening to advanced operational training. According to Textron, the training aircraft has logged over 5 million flight hours.
Which Countries Currently Use the Beechcraft T-6JP Texan II?
Textron said that over a thousand of its trainer aircraft are currently in service. The technology supports military pilots across 15 nations, including Japan.
The company has also delivered five Beechcraft T-6 Texan II to Phan Thiet Airbase in Vietnam in December 2024.
