North Carolina-based Curtiss-Wright will deliver its turret drive stabilization system to Rheinmetall Landsysteme Germany for integration into the KF51 Panther main battle tank. Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions is carrying out the work under the agreement, which took effect in December 2024.
The contract covers the stabilization system and associated hand controllers from Curtiss-Wright’s facility in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Switzerland. According to Curtiss-Wright, the system delivers precise target location and turret stabilization capabilities while allowing system designers to add or upgrade stabilization features as operational needs change.
High-Precision Stabilizers
“We are very proud that our ability to deliver end-users with the highest level of technology, service, reliability and quality resulted in our selection by Rheinmetall,” said Brian Perry, senior vice president and general manager at Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions. He added that the contract reinforces the company’s long-standing reputation as a supplier of high-precision stabilization systems.
Curtiss-Wright said its TDSS solution aligns with the KF51’s modular architecture, which allows multiple drives to operate along a single axis. This configuration is designed to improve layout flexibility and optimize weight distribution within the vehicle.
Curtiss-Wright recently supported the Royal Australian Air Force in testing its next-generation mobile aircraft arresting systems. Developed by the company’s electro-mechanical systems division, the systems incorporate redesigned energy absorbers to enhance the recovery of advanced military aircraft in any landing environment.
