Leonardo will continue supporting the Kuwait Air Force’s Eurofighter fleet after the country’s Ministry of Defense exercised a multi-year in-service support extension lasting until December 2029. The deal covers logistics, training and other sustainment services.
Support will be delivered through Leonardo Aviation Services, a Kuwaiti company, providing engineering support; maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade; and supply chain management for the aircraft.
Kuwait ordered 28 Eurofighter Typhoons in 2016 and began taking deliveries in 2021, with the program now close to completion.
Built by a consortium of Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo, the Typhoon is equipped with the EJ200 engine, advanced sensors including the E-SCAN radar and PIRATE infrared system, and the capacity to carry a wide range of air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons.
“Supplying comprehensive support solutions is core to Leonardo’s global strategy to properly enable the most efficient and effective operations of its technologies through advanced tailored services and proximity,” the company said in a statement.
Kuwait is not the only Middle Eastern nation collaborating with Leonardo to ensure combat readiness. In January, the Italian company expanded its partnership with Saudi Arabia, where Leonardo is expected to work closely with local businesses to develop aerospace and defense technologies.
Leonardo’s work in Kuwait reflects a wider regional strategy. In January, the company deepened its partnership with Saudi Arabia, where it will partner with local firms to develop new aerospace and defense capabilities.
