- Quantum Systems and Rohde & Schwarz are teaming up to add EW capabilities to unmanned air and ground platforms
- The collaboration will support autonomous battlefield reconnaissance and troop protection in contested environments
- Enhanced UAVs could help militaries track electromagnetic activity without deploying manned aircraft
Global tech company Quantum Systems and Rohde & Schwarz have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop electronic warfare and drone defense capabilities for unmanned aerial and ground systems.
What Will the Quantum Systems-Rohde & Schwarz Partnership Focus On?
Quantum Systems said Wednesday that under the agreement, the companies will integrate electronic warfare and signal interference, or SIGINT, technologies into unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs, and electronic protection and jamming systems into unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs. The partnership aims to enhance autonomous reconnaissance and force protection capabilities.
Martin Karkour, chief revenue officer at Quantum Systems, stressed the importance of adapting to the rapid technological advancements of modern military warfare.
“Together with Rohde & Schwarz, we are creating a German solution for unmanned aerial signals intelligence and ground-based electronic protection systems, thereby specifically expanding capabilities on the battlefield,” Karkour said.
How Will The Technology Be Used?
The partnership aims to expand operational reconnaissance capabilities and strengthen force protection through the use of autonomous systems. According to Quantum Systems, the enhanced tactical UAVs will enable armed forces to conduct aerial reconnaissance of electromagnetic emissions without relying on manned aircraft or larger strategic systems. The company added that integrated jamming technologies are expected to help unmanned ground vehicles protect troops operating in contested environments.
The collaboration builds on Quantum Systems’ broader push to expand interconnected unmanned defense capabilities across Europe. In April, the company partnered with Destinus to integrate reconnaissance and strike systems through its MOSAIC UXS software suite.
Quantum Systems has also expanded its “Build with Ukraine” initiative through partnerships focused on interceptor drones and unmanned ground systems supporting Ukrainian and European defense capabilities, as well as efforts to develop a multi-domain autonomous defense ecosystem.
