CAE and Saab have agreed to partner in exploring training, simulation and mission support capabilities for Gripen fighter aircraft in Canada if the government selects the platform for its future fighter capability.
What Would the CAE-Saab Collaboration Include?
CAE said Friday that under the memorandum of understanding, it would help build and run a training system in Canada for Gripen pilots and technicians. The system will cover simulator work, technical instruction, advanced pilot instruction and sustainment. The companies will also look into working together on mission systems sustainment and development within Canada, pairing CAE’s training, simulation and operational support work with Saab’s expertise in the platform.
The MOU builds on CAE and Saab’s expanding cooperation in Canada. In May, the companies signed a teaming agreement to support a potential Canadian Airborne Early Warning and Control capability based on Saab’s GlobalEye platform. CAE has also expanded similar training, simulation and mission support partnerships with other defense companies, including submarine manufacturer TKMS, as it seeks to support Canada’s domestic defense capabilities.

CAE President and CEO Matthew Bromberg said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to supporting Canada’s long-term defense readiness and could create opportunities for Canadian engineers, technicians and aviation professionals.
Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab, said the partnership would establish training and mission support capability in Canada while keeping critical knowledge, expertise and operational data in Canadian hands.
