What Does the M-346 Contract Cover?

Leonardo said Tuesday that under the contract, which formalizes a letter of intent signed in February, it will provide localized support, maintenance, overhaul and training capabilities in addition to developing the local workforce, with deliveries set to begin in 2030.

The program will support the Indonesian Ministry of Defence’s aircraft fleet modernization plans and address Indonesian Air Force operational requirements. Indonesia will become the 23rd user of the M-346 aircraft and the first Asian customer for the Block 20 configuration.

What Capabilities Will the M-346 F Block 20 Provide?

The M-346 is a twin-engine, tandem-seat jet aircraft. The Block 20 configuration will feature a large-area display cockpit, an active electronically scanned array radar, a Link 16 data link, electronic countermeasures and new weapons systems.

The M-346 F Block 20 builds on the aircraft family’s established advanced training architecture, which combines onboard tactical training, a ground-based training system and live, virtual and constructive training capabilities while supporting light combat functions for air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.

Leonardo said the M-346 system has accumulated more than 170,000 flight hours, with more than 170 aircraft ordered. The aircraft has been selected by 23 users for pilot training and is also used for tactical operations as a light multirole fighter.

The agreement with PT ESystem Solutions also includes local industrial participation and support for Indonesia’s aerospace and defense sector.
