NATO Defense Accelerator Formulates New Challenges Focused on Dual-Use Tech

NATO DIANA dual-use tech for national security

NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic has announced 10 new challenges to accelerate the development of dual-use deep technologies that would protect regional and national security. Interested innovators are requested to submit their proposals on or before July 11.

The key areas were selected after assessing the military alliance and member nations’ needs, settling on several priorities, including energy and power, human resilience and biotechnologies, contested electromagnetic environments, and data-assisted decision-making.

Chosen participants will receive over $100,000 in contractual funding to support their efforts to address the challenges. They will join DIANA’s Phase 1, a six-month accelerator program starting in January 2026. They will also have access to a network of more than 180 European and North American test facilities.

DIANA was formed to nurture NATO’s relationship with innovators focused on developing solutions that address defense and security challenges. It ensures collaborators are well supported by providing resources and guidance. Apart from its testing centers, the program operated 23 accelerator sites as of March 2024.
