L3Harris Partners With ELT Group to Strengthen Italian Defense Testing Capability

L3Harris Technologies and ELT Group, an Italian electromagnetic operation solutions provider, are collaborating to establish a new multi-sensor test facility in Italy. The initiative aims to create a center of excellence for the Italian military and allied nations.

The facility will be the first intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance test and calibration center opened outside the United States. Designed to support commercial, military and government programs, the new site will focus on projects involving the Joint Airborne Multi-Mission, Multi-Sensor System and Electronic Attack aircraft, as well as other air, surface and maritime platforms.

The Potomac Officers Club is set to host the 2025 Air and Space Summit on July 31. The event will provide attendees with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the importance of advanced air and space capabilities in the modern battlefield. Registration is now open.

According to ELT Group CEO and Chief Operating Officer Domitilla Benigni, her team is eager to use the company’s decades of expertise in ISR, multi-mission and electronic attack operational support for the collaboration. She said they aim to advance the development of “next-generation capabilities in the Italian test and operational range environment.”

Jon Rambeau, president of integrated mission systems at L3Harris, noted that the company’s industry partnerships will also benefit Italian businesses in the long term. “This new sensor test facility further strengthens Italy’s defense infrastructure,” he said.

The L3Harris-ELT partnership follows a $300 million contract that L3Harris secured in late July to deliver two electronic warfare system-equipped Gulfstream G550 aircraft, which are part of Italy’s efforts to expand its special mission aircraft fleet.
