Hanwha Aerospace, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Hanwha Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Spain’s Indra Group to jointly pursue armored vehicles for the Chilean military. Under the MOU, the companies will also cooperate to expand presence in Latin America, Hanwha Aerospace said Friday.
“Indra has defense electronics capabilities and a track record in Latin America that complement our vehicle platforms,” stated Dong Hyeon Kim, head of land systems business group at Hanwha Aerospace. “Through this MOU, the two companies will be able to offer a more complete package to armed forces in the region.”
What Does the Hanwha-Indra Partnership Cover?
Signed at the FIDAE 2026 International Air and Space Fair in Santiago, Chile, the MOU outlines plans for Hanwha and Indra to deliver a combined offering for Chile’s next-generation armored vehicle program. Hanwha will supply its Tigon armored vehicle platforms, while Indra will provide mission system equipment, including connectivity, situational awareness and command-and-control capabilities.
Indra will also serve as regional coordination lead.
“This partnership creates an optimum framework for combining the core technologies and areas of excellence of both companies into a competitive, state-of-the-art product, capable of meeting high demand in the region,” a spokesperson for Indra added.
How Does This Agreement Fit Into Hanwha’s Global Strategy?
The Chile effort is expected to serve as a foundation for broader collaboration across Latin America as both companies pursue additional ground defense opportunities.
Hanwha Aerospace has expanded its global footprint over the years through partnerships and major contracts. The company recently secured a $4 billion deal to supply Poland with Chunmoo CGR-080 guided missiles.
In February 2025, the South Korea-born aerospace and defense firm partnered with Estonia’s Milrem Robotics to develop and market robotic combat vehicles and other ground robotic systems to internal customers.
Hanwha Aerospace also signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi-based EDGE Group to explore collaboration on several defense areas, including air and missile defense, long-range precision strike, and unmanned systems.
