Fincantieri and Republikorp have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a partnership aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s domestic naval shipbuilding capabilities.

What Does the Fincantieri-Republikorp Partnership Cover?

The companies announced the partnership at the Eurosatory defense and security exhibition in Paris, Fincantieri said Wednesday. The MOU provides for the creation of a joint venture between Fincantieri and Republikorp subsidiary PT Republik Palindo Internasional, or RPAL.

The planned joint venture will focus on local construction of naval vessels designed for Indonesia’s geographic and operational requirements. Potential platforms include landing platform docks, landing helicopter docks, multi-role frigates, corvettes, offshore patrol vessels, fast attack craft and submarines.

How Will the Partnership Support Indonesia’s Defense Industry?

A key element of the agreement is the transfer of technology and know-how. Fincantieri will provide engineering support, training programs and assistance in developing local design, system integration and production capabilities. The initiative is designed to cultivate a skilled workforce, expand the role of local suppliers and gradually position Indonesia within the global shipbuilding value chain.

The initiative aligns with Republikorp’s efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s defense industrial base through investments in talent, technology and strategic partnerships aimed at advancing industrial independence.

Fincantieri CEO and Managing Director Pierroberto Folgiero said the MOU builds on the company’s existing cooperation with the Indonesian Navy and reflects its commitment to supporting local industrial capabilities.

Norman Joesoef, chairman of Republikorp Group, said the partnership supports Indonesia’s defense industry independence while strengthening maritime capabilities, national talent development and regional defense resilience.
