- Spire Global and Diehl Defence have signed an MOU to pursue collaboration on satellite-based intelligence and early warning against ballistic and hypersonic missiles
- The deal was concluded at the ILA Berlin Airshow 2026 and supports Germany’s national space security strategy
- The partnership reflects Spire’s deepening industrial presence in Germany, anchored by a new Munich satellite manufacturing site
Spire Global and Diehl Defence have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing a joint approach to space-based threat detection. The two companies signed the agreement during the ILA Berlin Airshow 2026 in Germany.
What Does the Agreement Set Out to Achieve?
Under the MOU, Spire and Diehl Defence will work toward a potential collaboration focused on using satellite technology to detect and provide early warning of ballistic and hypersonic missile threats, Spire Global said Wednesday.
The effort draws on each company’s distinct strengths and supports the German government’s broader push for information dominance across offensive and defensive domains, including space.
What Are the CEOs Saying About the Partnership?
Spire Global CEO Theresa Condor said the deal pairs the company’s end-to-end satellite capabilities with Diehl’s deep industrial defense background.
“With Diehl Defence, we are combining Spire’s vertically integrated expertise from building and operating our own small satellite constellation to delivering space-based data and analytics with decades of industrial defense experience to help strengthen security from space for Germany and Europe,” Condor said.
Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch framed the MOU as part of a wider effort to connect space-based intelligence with ground-level defense infrastructure.
“At Diehl Defence, we are proud to expand our portfolio of products and services by space-based elements with our new and very competent partner Spire. By taking this step, we are expanding our position as systems house, connecting intelligence from space to weapons systems and command centers,” Rauch said.
What Is Spire’s Technology Role in the Partnership?
Spire’s operational satellite constellation provides near real-time radio frequency detection, geolocation and domain awareness data relevant to missile tracking, jamming detection and space-based surveillance.
These capabilities form the technical foundation for the early warning mission that the two companies are looking to develop together. Spire has also recently commissioned a Munich-based satellite production facility capable of manufacturing up to 100 satellites annually, reinforcing its industrial footing in Germany.
What Is Spire Global?
Spire Global is a space-to-cloud data and intelligence company that designs, builds and operates its own satellite constellation to deliver mission-critical data and analytics to government and defense agencies worldwide. Its solutions cover space reconnaissance, RF geolocation and custom constellation deployments.
What Is Diehl Defence?
Diehl Defence is a German defense technology company and global leader in guided missiles and ammunition for armies, air forces and navies. Headquartered in Überlingen, the company also serves as a systems integrator for ground-based air defense and offers solutions in reconnaissance, monitoring and protection.
