French aerospace firm Safran has acquired Collins Aerospace’s flight control and actuation systems for commercial and military aircraft. In an announcement made on Monday, the company said the addition to its business portfolio will strengthen Safran’s position as a global leader in providing services for these systems and will also prepare the company for next-generation technologies.
According to Safran, the acquisition will merge its expertise in electro-mechanical actuation and electronics with Collins’ hydraulic and mechanical actuation capabilities. This combinationaims to help the aircraft industry reach its decarbonization goals.
The company said the acquisition complements its existing helicopter and nacelle actuation business, where it is already a significant global player.
Safran’s CEO, Olivier Andriès, expressed that the acquisition aligns perfectly with the company’s core values.
“This acquisition offers a unique opportunity to solidify our position in mission-critical flight control and actuation functions and create a global leader in this domain. It will enable us to deliver a comprehensive offering to our customers and position us extremely well for next-generation aircraft,” the chief executive said.
Safran announced its acquisition plans in July 2023, with a cash offer based on a $1.8 billion enterprise value. It completed the regulatory approvals from the European Commission in April and the U.S. Department of Justice in June.
