Hensoldt to Supply Radars to Ukraine Under New Military Package

German defense electronics firm Hensoldt has secured an order to deliver TRML-4D and SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII radars to enhance Ukraine’s air defense as part of a comprehensive package worth almost $400 million.

Based on active electronically scanned array technology, the TRML-4D radar can detect and track up to 1,500 targets within a 250-kilometer radius. Hensoldt said it is designed to rapidly identify and classify aerial threats such as drones, cruise missiles, aircraft and helicopters.

Meanwhile, the SPEXER 2000 radar offers automatic detection and classification of ground, sea and low-flying air targets.

Support for Ukraine Defense

“Our high-performance radars are urgently needed by Ukrainian air defense,” Hensoldt CEO Oliver Dörre said in a statement. “A number of radars have been protecting Ukraine since the start of Russia’s war of aggression. We are proud to be supplying further systems. The radars are extremely important for protecting citizens.”

The latest deal adds to a series of radar-related developments at Hensoldt. In February, the company secured a $365 million contract extension from Airbus Defence and Space to further develop the Eurofighter Common Radar System Mark 1, which aims to improve air-to-air and air-to-ground operations for the aircraft. Hensoldt and Lockheed Martin are also co-developing maritime radar and command and control systems.
