Modern Avionics Suite
TAI designed the a single-engine, tandem-seating Hurjet with a cockpit equipped with a modern avionics suite as a replacement for the T-38 aircraft.
Mehmet Demiroğlu, CEO at Turkish Aerospace Industries, told Breaking Defense that the Spanish order is expected to be finalized before the end of 2025, with delivery to start by 2028. The first deliveries are for 15 to 20 aircraft immediately ready for the Turkish Air Force use.
Supplemental Type Certificate
The second phase of the procurement calls for producing some avionic and control parts in Spain.
“At the end of this phase, all aircrafts will be using the selected subsystems from Spain. So it will have a supplemental type certificate for Spain configuration,” Demiroğlu said.
TAI is also exploring Hurjet exports to other NATO countries and allies. In addition, the company anticipates that the Turkish Air Force will order 100 of its KAAN fifth-generation fighter jet, for which Indonesia already ordered 48 aircraft in June.
