Elbit Systems Receives $260M Israeli Contracts for Advanced Airborne Munitions

Bezhalel Machlis on Elbit Systems Israel munitions contract win

Elbit Systems announced on Monday that it will supply the Israel Ministry of Defense with advanced airborne munitions under two contracts totalling $260 million.

Bezhalel Machlis, president and CEO of Elbit Systems, said the contract awards highlight the company’s continuing support of providing cutting-edge technologies suited to the evolving needs of the Israeli defense forces. Elbit did not specify the type of munitions it will supply, but Machlis noted that the contracts include newly developed products that are also expected to attract interest from military forces around the globe.

The company’s next-generation air-to-surface weapon systems include the Lizard family of modular bomb guidance kits, which Elbit says provide advanced targeting acquisition and engagement, converting general-purpose bombs to precision strike munitions.

It also has the Range Extension and Smart Tail guidance kit, designed to convert general-purpose warheads into an autonomous stand-off and accurate weapon system that is less costly and easy to operate.

The company also offers electronic warfare technology to safeguard its airborne platforms. In January, the Israel Ministry of Defense tapped its advanced Airborne Self-Protection Suite for installation into the Israeli Air Force’s F-16I fleet.
