Raytheon UK, a unit of RTX’s Raytheon subsidiary, has completed demonstrations on integrating the Paveway IV bomb into the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. Raytheon developed and produced the dual-mode, precision-guided bomb utilizing a warhead from RWM Italia, part of Rheinmetall group.
According to an RTX statement Monday, RWM Italia enabled the integration demos held in July at the Royal Air Force Marham and MOD Aberporth testing range. The tests included cross-force tactical integration, weapon and platform training, live-fire exercises, and mission planning simulations.

Allied Interoperability
“The successful completion of these trials is an important milestone in allied defense cooperation,” said James Gray, CEO of Raytheon UK. “Our work with RWM Italia and the Royal Air Force exemplifies how industry can enable greater interoperability, lethality and capability across NATO forces, helping them maintain air superiority.”

The RAF has been keeping the Paveway IV bomb in its fleet’s armory since 2008. According to RTX, Paveway bombs comprised more than half of the precision-guided munitions used in allied operations such as Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Unified Protector.
