The United Kingdom and Germany have moved a step closer to deploying a new family of stealth and hypersonic missiles capable of striking targets over 2,000 kilometers away, following high-level defense talks in Berlin aimed at bolstering long-range deterrence against European adversaries.
UK Minister for Defense Readiness and Industry Luke Pollard met with Germany’s State Secretary for Armament and Innovation Jens Plötner to review progress on the Deep Precision Strike missile program, the British government said Monday.
What Capabilities Will the Missile Program Deliver?
The effort will initially center on ground-launched capabilities, with plans to expand into air and naval platforms. The missiles are expected to enter service in the 2030s and are intended to provide increased operational flexibility and extended-range deterrence.
How Does the Effort Support UK-Germany Defense Cooperation?
Building on the Trinity House Agreement signed in October 2024, which established a framework for defense collaboration between the two countries, the program aims to strengthen industrial cooperation and remains open to additional partner nations.
“We are not only arming our military personnel with the best weaponry to act as the strongest possible deterrent to our adversaries, but in doing so we are also building the industrial foundations that will keep both nations at the forefront of defence technology, making us secure at home and strong abroad,” Pollard said.
How Does This Fit Into Broader Collaboration Efforts?
In December 2025, the two countries announced joint investments in quantum research and development and agreements to advance shared technology standards. They also signed a $69.3 million artillery contract under the Trinity House framework to support joint capability development and interoperability.
