  • The award includes satellite delivery, launch services and ground control and data management systems upgrade
  • The new spacecraft will help maintain Canada’s Earth observation capabilities under the RADARSAT+ program

MDA Space has received a contract from the Canadian Space Agency to deliver a synthetic aperture radar satellite that will operate alongside the RADARSAT Constellation Mission, or RCM, satellites and support Canada’s Earth observation capabilities.

The Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Air and Space Summit on July 30 will explore the technologies and priorities shaping the future of air and space operations. Register today.

What Is the Scope of the Contract?

The company said Wednesday the contract covers the delivery of the satellite along with launch services and upgrades to the satellite’s ground control, security and data management systems. The award builds on a $44.7 million contract issued in December 2025 for the procurement and delivery of long-lead components.

The RCM replenishment satellite is part of the Canadian government’s $1.012 billion RADARSAT+ initiative, announced in October 2023, to ensure continuity of the RADARSAT Constellation Mission and strengthen Canada’s Earth observation capabilities.

What Capabilities Will the Satellite Provide?

The replenishment satellite will be built using MDA CHORUS, the company’s fourth-generation Earth observation technology platform. MDA Space said the platform is designed to provide day-and-night, all-weather surveillance data for a wide range of applications.

Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space, said Canadians rely on Earth observation technology and data for maritime safety, Arctic surveillance, disaster response and environmental monitoring.

“By leveraging our significant commercial investments in MDA CHORUS, Canadians will benefit from world leading technologies developed right here in Canada to meet those vital needs,” said Greenley.
