Calian Appoints Former Thales Exec as President of Defence & Space

Chris Pogue as Calian Defence & Space president

Calian Group has appointed Chris Pogue of Thales Canada as the president of its newly established Defence & Space unit, a role he will officially take on starting July 7. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Canadian services and solutions company announced that Pogue will lead a high-performance organization that merges its Advanced Technologies and Learning business units.

“Bringing together the subject matter experts and leading-edge solutions from Advanced Technologies and Learning allows us to harness our collective strengths, co-innovate with our space and defense partners, and deliver the reliability and precision mission success demands,” Pogue said in the company release. Calian provides services and solutions to industry and government clients in various sectors, including health, learning, defense, aerospace, engineering, agricultural technology, satellite communications and IT.

Pogue has over two decades of senior executive experience. He most recently served as president and CEO of Thales Canada, where he oversaw naval support services and spearheaded initiatives in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. He is a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force and previously led the defense space business at MDA Government. Additionally, Pogue has held leadership positions at General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada and CAE Professional Services.

“From ground systems and satellite communications to immersive training and operational support, Calian is uniquely positioned to lead in an increasingly complex global environment,” Pogue remarked in a separate LinkedIn post announcing his move. “I look forward to working alongside the talented Calian team as we deliver on that commitment.”

Pogue’s appointment follows Calian’s recent selection of Roch Pelletier as regional vice president for global defense and security. A veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces with 30 years of experience, Pelletier’s focus is on expanding the company’s presence in the United Kingdom, Europe and NATO while promoting its cybersecurity, training and IT solutions.
