Australia Hoverfly tethered unmanned aerial system

Hoverfly Technologies has delivered the Sentry tethered unmanned aerial system to an Australian government customer for trial and evaluation. The UAS is scheduled to demonstrate its capabilities in major Australian Defence Force exercises in 2025.

Air and defense leaders are set to gather at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2025 Air and Space Summit to discuss challenges and opportunities faced by the industry. Reserve your slot today.

Compliant with IP54 and MIL-STD-810 standards, the Sentry is capable of precision landing, an open architecture and proprietary technology that offers unmatched precision flight in GPS-denied locations. The UAS is compatible with several payloads, including a long-range dual electro-optical/infrared stabilized camera and mobile ad hoc networking.

According to Hoverfly, tethered drone systems, such as the Sentry, are part of ADF modernization efforts, which aim to equip warfighters with the capability to use persistent aerial technology in contemporary operations.

The tethered drone, carried out with the support of its local partner, Maser Defence, marks Hoverfly’s expansion in the Australian market. The two companies started their partnership in February, combining their expertise to ensure that the Sentry passes the Australian government’s rigorous testing requirements.

The delivery of the Hoverfly UAS comes after the Australian government released a request for proposals seeking to identify contractors capable of delivering counter-drone solutions under the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator program.
