Indra demonstrated the integration of its Nemus active protection radar on Leopard main battle tanks during live trials at the Spanish Army’s Armored Units Instruction Center in Zaragoza. Brig. Gen. Luis Sanz Muñoz, the military service’s Logistics Command procurement chief, said service personnel and Indra engineers oversaw the trials on Monday.

Described as Europe’s most advanced system of its kind, the Nemus radar is based on a compact active electronically scanned array radar and is able to detect, track and classify a wide range of aerial threats: from drones and micro-drones to anti-tank missiles and even supersonic arrow-type munitions. Indra said the radar is built to function in extreme weather and is resistant to jamming, safeguarding European land forces amid the rising use of low-cost drones in modern warfare.

The demonstration follows earlier testing at the Spanish Army’s Radio Evaluation and Experimentation Center in Guadalajara in July and comes as Indra expands its radar work globally. In the United Kingdom, the company has secured a contract from air navigation provider NATS to deploy 19 state-of-the-art surveillance radars. Additionally, Oman recently awarded the Spanish defense firm a contract to deliver long-range Lanza 3D early warning radars to enhance its air defense system.
