Singapore Teams With Airbus to Trial Crewed-Uncrewed Helicopter Operations

Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency has partnered with Airbus Helicopters to explore crewed-uncrewed teaming capabilities using the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s H225M medium-lift helicopters and Airbus’ Flexrotor uncrewed aerial system.

Airbus said the agreement involves a flight demonstration to evaluate how this integration can enhance situational awareness and mission outcomes and improve efficiency in complex air operations.

During the flight test, the H225M will be equipped with Airbus’ new HTeaming system, a modular solution that allows aircrews to control the Flexrotor mid-flight. The HTeaming kit will include a modem, four antennas, a tablet and supporting software.

Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even said the H225M is already optimized for night search and rescue missions in adverse conditions and noted Singapore’s proficiency in operating the platform. “I am sure that by working with Singapore’s DSTA and the RSAF, we will be able to demonstrate the added value of teaming and how it can further extend the capabilities of the H225M,” he added.

DSTA Chief Executive Ng Chad-Son noted that the crewed-uncrewed teaming could lead to more effective air operations in complex environments. He described the project as a “synergistic combination” that could serve as a “true force multiplier.”

Singapore increased its 2025 defense budget by 12.4 percent to $17.5 billion, funding major acquisitions across the Singapore Armed Forces. Among other plans, Singapore is evaluating options to replace its aging Fokker 50 maritime patrol aircraft, with Airbus’ C295 under consideration. The Airbus collaboration also follows DSTA’s agreement with U.S.-based Windward to collaborate on maritime artificial intelligence research.
