Northrop Grumman has signed a memorandum of understanding with Romania’s state-owned defense firm ROMARM to collaborate on an advanced ground-based radar system for the Romanian Air Force.

The partnership, which aims to co-produce the G/ATOR (Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar) mobile radar system in Romania, was signed by senior officials from the two companies at ROMARM’s headquarters in Bucharest on Tuesday.

Security Against Evolving Threats

“Our industrial partnership with ROMARM will deliver a proven, ready-now solution to help strengthen Romania’s security against evolving threats,” said Greg Teitelbaum, vice president of land and maritime sensors at Northrop Grumman. He said that using reliable, compatible software, the radar system will enable 360-degree surveillance and fire control.

According to Northrop, the radar solution is expected to counter modern aerial threats while integrating seamlessly with NATO countries’ command and control infrastructures.

It is the latest in Northrop’s broader effort to expand its European defense partnerships. Last month, the company signed a similar memorandum with Marshall Land Systems to support the United Kingdom’s Ground Based Air Defence program. That collaboration focuses on integrating Northrop missile defense technologies with Marshall modular hardware to upgrade the U.K.’s short and medium-range defense systems.
