BAE Systems Hägglunds and Iveco Defence Vehicles have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and manufacture the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle for the Italian market. The partnership aims to localize design and production to meet the country’s defense requirements.
BAE Systems Hägglunds General Manager Tommy Gustafsson-Rask said the partnership will leverage the two companies’ expertise in armored vehicle technology and reinforce their commitment to European defense and industrial growth.
The armored, amphibious, articulated BvS10 vehicle can operate across extreme environments such as snow, swamps, sand, or steep mountain terrain. BAE said its modular design supports mission profiles, including troop transport, medical evacuation, logistics support, command and control, and vehicle repair. The platform is already in service in Austria, France, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and the Netherlands.
IDV CEO Claudio Catalano highlighted Iveco’s longstanding partnership with the Italian Army. “We are committed to continuing our effort in offering the highest standards of survivability, performance, reliability and safety to satisfy the diverse needs of the Italian Army and the armed forces all over the world,” he said. Based in Bolzano in Northern Italy, IDV produces a range of protected, armored and logistics vehicles for military use.
This latest collaboration follows BAE Systems’ involvement in another major internal defense partnership with Italy. Last year, BAE, Leonardo and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement formed a joint venture to support the Global Combat Air Programme, a trilateral initiative formed by the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan to develop a next-generation warplane.
